Description

Sweeny Laboratory of Phillips 66 is accepting applications for a Laboratory Intern at the laboratory in Sweeny, Texas. The selected candidate will be part of the laboratory team and will work under the direction of the lab group leader.

Responsibilities May Include

The Technician may be responsible for providing a wide range of assistance in multiple laboratories. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain a safe laboratory working environment.

  • Become knowledgeable of, and adhere to, safe work practices and procedures by completing all safety training, actively participating in company safety programs, and observing and correcting unsafe acts

  • Train on all analyses in the applicable lab

  • Operate lab instrumentation following standard laboratory guidelines

  • Utilize SQC trends to evaluate instrument accuracy and precision, taking corrective action if necessary

  • Prepare standards and standardize solutions required in analyses

  • Utilize spreadsheets to log data and calculate results

  • Maintain and continuously increase technical knowledge

  • Self-start and work independently, as well as work within a team setting to accomplish objectives

  • Communicate well with all employees, assisting where needed

  • Perform assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize personal productivity

  • Maintain a reliable work schedule with a minimum of 20hrs/week

Position Requirements

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Cumulative college retention GPA equal to or greater than 2.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • APPLICANTS MUST BE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CHEMISTRY or A CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY DEGREE PLAN.

  • Completion of, or currently enrolled in, at least one (1) college level chemistry course

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions

  • Must be 18 years of age

  • Must pass a FIT test for half-mask and SCBA gear

  • Able to work standing for a two (2) hour period

  • Able to lift a stationary weight of 20-lbs. from a floor to a bench level

  • Able to lift a stationary weight of 5-lbs. from bench level to a shelf 18- inches above bench level

  • No issues with heights associated with tank climbing

  • Able to climb a shore tank (between 70-80 steps) while carrying 20lbs for sampling purposes

  • Able to respond to sound and system fault light alarms

  • Able to pour solvents from a 4-L bottle into smaller containers
