The Instrument Technician New Hire will participate in training programs which provides opportunities for career success through hands-on learning and training experiences. New Hires apply subject matter knowledge learned in a certificate or associate program to the workplace and develop technical and interpersonal skills in the workplace. It is important to participate as contributing and active members of their craft team.

We are currently hiring entry-level Instrument Technicians in the following refining locations:

Borger Refinery – Borger, TX

Ponca City Refinery – Ponca City, OK

Sweeny Refinery – Old Ocean, TX

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Repair, troubleshoot, and maintain refinery electronic and pneumatic instrumentation, including controllers, control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and vibration equipment.

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance for instrument equipment.

  • Provide inspection, testing, and documentation of safety systems to meet OSHA regulations.

  • Assist with pre-startup safety reviews and new project technical reviews.

  • Work schedule is normally days, Monday through Friday. Will involve some nights, weekends, and overtime work to support the 24-hour operation of the Refinery.

  • Communicate well with all organizational levels and present information / ideas in an articulate and organized way.

  • Expected to work effectively in a team environment

Position Requirements

Basic/Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Currently enrolled in an Instrumentation degree program with a graduation date of Spring 2020, Summer 2020 or Fall 2020

  • Maintain a valid driver's license

  • Must possess a valid Transportation Workers' Identification Credential (TWIC) or qualify for a TWIC card by start date

  • Must be willing and able, with or without accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:

  • Work overtime if needed (including weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts)

  • Respond to afterhours callouts

  • Lift up to 50 pounds

  • Work in enclosed spaces such as tanks and silos

  • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines

  • Climb up to 200 feet in height; work at elevated heights

  • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases

  • Wear Nomex fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toed shoes, ear/eye protection)

  • Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly

  • Ability to be on call and respond to callouts during off hours due to business necessity

  • Work outside in harsh weather condition

  • Must be able to read, follow and understand schematics, drawings (including ladder logic), and other diagrams in English
