The Borger Refinery is in Borger, Texas, about 50 miles northeast of Amarillo. It’s owned by WRB Refining LP, a 50/50 partnership between Phillips 66 and Cenovus Energy, and operated by Phillips 66. The refinery processes primarily medium sour crude oil and NGL delivered through pipelines from West Texas, the Texas Panhandle and Canada. Borger has a gross NGL fractionation capacity of 22,500 BPD.
A technical internship with Phillips 66 Borger Refinery will allow you opportunities to make contributions that support our overall Refining organization.
As a Welder Intern you will get to work closely with experienced professionals while learning phases of maintenance and construction at the refinery. This will expose you to the following:
Fabricating and repairing vessels, tanks, exchangers, piping systems and other equipment
Welding materials commonly found in a refinery such as carbon steel, chrome, stainless, cast iron, Monel, Hastelloy, and aluminum
Fabricating pipe spools or piping systems from engineering drawings, layout and fabricate stub-ins, offsets and laterals, and make weld repairs by cladding, patching, banding, and installing couplings
Welding in all work positions using SMAQ and GTAQ processes, weld with Tungsten Inert Gases (TIG) and Metallic Inert Gases (MIG), use large hydraulic and pneumatic tools and operating motorized and manual equipment
Requirements for a Phillips 66 Internship:
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must maintain a valid driver’s license
Pursuing a Welder Craft certificate program
Available to intern for a minimum of ten continuous weeks
Graduation date of Summer 2023 or later
Willing and able, with or without accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:
Lift up to 50 pounds
Work in enclosed spaces such as tanks and silos
Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
Climb up to 200 feet in height; work at elevated heights
Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toed shoes, ear/eye protection)
Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly
Work outside in harsh conditions
A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Previous internship or co-op participant in related industry
Previous internship with Phillips 66
