Phillips 66 2023 University Technical Intern - Borger Refinery - Electrician in Borger, Texas

The Borger Refinery is in Borger, Texas, about 50 miles northeast of Amarillo. It’s owned by WRB Refining LP, a 50/50 partnership between Phillips 66 and Cenovus Energy, and operated by Phillips 66. The refinery processes primarily medium sour crude oil and NGL delivered through pipelines from West Texas, the Texas Panhandle and Canada. Borger has a gross NGL fractionation capacity of 22,500 BPD.

A technical internship with Phillips 66 Borger Refinery will allow you opportunities to make contributions that support our overall Refining organization.

As an Electrician Intern you will get to work closely with experienced professionals while learning how to repair, insulate, alter, fabricate, remove, install, assemble, troubleshoot and service a wide variety of electrical equipment, such as motor controllers, starters, variable frequency drives, high voltage switchgear, electrical test equipment and electrical control systems. This will expose you to the following:

  • Working with Operations and other groups to fully understand the scope, priority and timing needed for maintenance repairs. Ensures all work is completed in a safe, environmentally compliant, and cost-effective manner

  • Reviewing work prior to start, assuring materials, resources, information and tools on hand to achieve high levels of craft productivity.

  • Executing/completing daily and preventative maintenance work orders

  • Initiating equipment defect elimination by identifying problem causes, taking immediate corrective action when practical, and recommending solutions to supervisors and engineers

  • Developing/modifying maintenance or safety procedures related to maintenance work processes, individually or as part of a team.

  • Participating in the safety process i.e. JSA's/TSA’s and performing safety observations to assure the plans following applicable government regulations and established company policies, procedures and practices.

  • Reviewing technical manuals/procedures/specifications to effectively perform assigned work.

Requirements for Internship:

Basic/Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must maintain a valid driver's license

  • Pursuing an Associates degree in Electronics or an Electrical Certificate Program or equivalent technical program

  • Available to intern for a minimum of ten continuous weeks

  • Graduation date of Summer 2023 or later

  • Willing and able, with or without accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:

    • Work overtime (including weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts)

    • Lift up to 50 pounds

    • Work in enclosed spaces such as tanks and silos

    • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines

    • Climb up to 200 feet in height; work at elevated heights

    • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases

    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toed shoes, ear/eye protection)

    • Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly

    • To work outside in harsh weather conditions

Preferred:

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Previous internship or co-op participant in related industry

  • Previous internship with Phillips 66
